How do you calculate the right amount of paint?

Step 1: Calculate the area of the walls by multiplying width and height.

  • Width X Height = … m²

Step 2: Calculate the area of the windows and doors, again by multiplying width and height by each other.

  • width X height = … m²

Step 3: subtract the area of the windows and doors from the area of the walls.

  • area walls – area windows and doors = … m

Step 4: multiply that number of m² by two. After all, we always recommend two coats of paint for a perfect end result.

  • Surface area X 2 = … m²

Step 5: Divide the number of m² obtained in this way by 10.

  • m² : 10 = … liters of paint

With one liter of wall paint you can paint an average of 10 m², so this formula will certainly do the trick. Keep in mind that each type of paint has a different yield and that the quality of the paint also plays a role. Check the product page of this site for all the details. You will also find a handy paint calculator for each product.

Tip: Do you want to paint not only your walls but also your doors? Then your calculation in step 3 will come in handy. In that case, multiply again by two and then divide by 12, because with lacquer paint for doors you can paint an average of 12 m².
